The Migrant Worker’s Children Caring Program

2008-11-21
image004.jpg With the economic development, more and more migrant workers come to work in Zhuhai, and many of them live near our campus. As they are not local citizens, the migrant workers' children do not benefit from the governments policy of free compulsory education, so that some of them still can't pay the tuition fee or drop out of school. Everyone has the equal right to be educated. And only the education can help them to have a better future. As citizens we have the social responsibility to help them to continue their study.

Therefore, the United Innovative Charity Club (a UIC student volunteer club) organized Migrant Workers' Children Caring Program, in Jingfeng Primary School, Jinding District. Besides English tutoring, home teaching, we try to support the poor children.

Hansen’s Disease Village Service

2008-11-21

 image010.jpg

Hansen's Disease Village Service is the newest service project of the Whole Person Education Voluntary Service module. The Hansen's disease, also known as leprosy, is a chronic infection of bacterium Mycobacterium lepra, which affects the superficial tissues, especially the skin and peripheral nerves. In the 1950s, it spread seriously in China and couldn't be controlled by the medical technique. So the Chinese government sent all the patients to the Leprosarium, a village clinic far away from the city, along with doctors and medicine to attend them.
