Dr. Dave Towey

At the United International College (UIC) I work in the English Language Centre (ELC), as deputy director. I also spend as much time as possible with the drama club (Thespiae). I also work with both the Computer Science and Technology (CST) and the Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Degree Programmes.

I currently live in Zhuhai (wikipedia, wikitravel), a picturesque city in southern China.

My Alma Mater is the University of Dublin, Trinity College (TCD). Before joining (UIC), I spent several years in the Department of Computer Science (CS) of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and before that I used to live in a beautiful Japanese town called Kanazawa (wikipedia, wikitravel), and work with the Japanese company Mitani Sangyo.

At UIC, I was the assistant editor of the International Journal of Cross-Cultural Studies (IJCCS) for our first issue. I am also a member of the Institute of Statistical and Computational Intelligence (ISCI), my profile for which is here.

In July 2007, I took part in the UIC expedition to Qinghai. The poster for this trip is here.

In summer 2008, I was part of a team sent by UIC to help the earthquake-hit region of Sichuan. Another volunteer, Zhu Xiaodong, created a montage (WMV format — 8.25 MB) of some of the experiences.

In December 2009, we held the first International Conference on Language and Culture (ICLC).
