Abstract:

While virtual and telecommunication technologies are gaining momentum during the time of social isolation, the question of how to design for embodied interaction gains relevance outside of the academic research in art and design fields. Delineating her research over the recent years, Dr. Oksana Kryzhanivska will share the results of her study on the discovered affordances of tactile interaction in her interactive sculptural art with augmenting electronic components, devices, and gaming platforms. Developing these interactive environments transformed once traditional sculptural practice into an interdisciplinary research platform.

About Speaker:

Oksana Kryzhanivska holds a Ph.D. in Computational Media and Design, and a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Calgary, Canada. Her practice-led research intersects art, design, and computer science, studying how aesthetic experiences of embodied interaction with flesh-like objects form new notions of the human body. Oksana's sculptural inquiry into haptics, a technology of tactile sensing and feedback, resulted in publications and exhibitions at the international conferences ISMAR, ISEA, ICME, The Image, and ACM MM, and in Canadian art museums, the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie and The Nickle Arts Museum.
