Abstract of the talk:

The wind band is an instrumental ensemble which is no strings attached but consists of woodwind, brass and percussion instrument. Different from symphony orchestra, the traditional wind band repertoires are highly related to military. Nonetheless, transcriptions and arrangements of western classical music, folk music and popular tunes are introduced in the wind band repertoires list. Original compositions for wind band are also featured in ceremonies, concerts and competitions.
This talk will demonstrate the wind band heritage by exploring its pluralistic cultural, historic, and social contexts. Several important composers and their works will also be included.
